Bee removal report

October 16, 2009

Unfortunately things didn't go to plan so we're going back tomorrow morning.

Here's what the floor looked like at about midday:

Dusty (a local builder) had secured battons linking the floorboards we were going to lift he'd also cut along the boards so in theory we can lift all the comb in one go.

Here we're taking up some more floor boards, we're right next to the hive and the bees are still pretty calm.

Here the first 2 boards have been lifted, along with most of the comb, unfortunately some is still stuck, Bee's now getting a bit miffed:

Here's some better better views:

Taking up the next 2 board where most of the bee's were turned out to be harder that we'd thought. We hadn't realised that the combs were stuck down to to the top of the plaster that was the ceiling of the room below. so when we lifted the boards the boards came up leaving the comb behind.

We transfered as much of the comb as we could into a section of hive and left it above the floor next to the remaining section of hive and then covered everything with cloth to calm the bees down:

We'll have another go tomorrow, cutting out sections of comb one at a time and then tying them into empty frames and putting them in a box
