BT AGM and webwise/phorm

July 16, 2008

Just got back from the BT shareholder meeting, where there was plenty of webwise/phorm related badgering going on (to the extent that it tended towards ranting). I suspect that the BT directors don't really know what it's all about, and arn't that interested in the details.

I did talk briefly to Gavin Patterson (Head of BT Retail) after the AGM was over. He was clearly a bit stressed by the whole phorm thing, and didn't have much detail about the upcoming trial. But he did say that it was 'network based' and used different technology from the 2006 and 2007 trials.

I did ask if it was totally invisible to websites, and he said yes, then hesitated and said again that the technology was different from the previous trials.

I got the impression that he didn't really know the details of the new trial, but with Phorm/Webwise the details are important.

It will be interesting to see how the whole thing develops.

P.S. My question was:

"Has BT paid, or received claims for compensation relating to people believing that the effects of the 2006 WebWise trial was due to a virus or worm infecting their compter?".

They ran out of time before i could ask it (I was fairly late), but it will supposedly be answered by post.
