It is a shame that good intentions have been overtaken by other matters and Manchester wireless is a seldom used discussion group only. There are plenty of people around who have open access some like me don't mind others using the access and there are many more I suspect that just simply buy a router and then don't know how to secure it. The default on most new routers is to work in the first instance without any security at all. Welcome to the UK. John. David funny you should mention this as I was speaking to John Greenwood the other night and I have total line of sight to Manchester City Centre from waterloo park and also have an SDSL connection 200 yards away from Salford university with massive clear views. With a bit of dedication we could really make a great triangle. I think really we should have another Manchester Wireless meeting...Harry are you up for it sir? It is about time we kick started everything again and I was thinking along the lines of a Manchester Wireless day out with live demonstrations of how to's. We could hire a Mini Bus, have some nice food and drinks and basically make it fun day out. A rather good excuse to get away from the wife and kids. What do you all think? I'm still wordering what is the "vision" of manchster wireless? To create roof-to-roof links all over the place and thus create a mini "Internet" with routing and everything or just isolated hot-spots for access to the Internet? By the way, I'm a member of the AWMN network in Athens, Greece which has 650 active nodes.
